 Canon Pixma MX870 - Recommended August 21, 2010
Paid [$...]. Excellent product for the price, I think.
I have used this printer for about 1 month. It replaced a Pixma ip4300, and HP Scanjet, which are still working but I wanted the AIO to save space.
Printing: Works fine, duplex works fine, speed is fine. I use Draft mode a lot, which I hope saves ink and is plenty fast and looks OK. I use duplex printing quite a lot as well. It doesn't work on legal paper, however. Standard and High Quality settings are fast enough for me, comparable to my old Canon, and fine. I am using Canon ink, BTW.
I've also printed photos, and I think I do need to do some tweaking on the color settings but overall the prints look fine on glossy paper. I need to research color calibration more. I am using Kodak 4x6 glossy and Canon glossy 8-1/2 x 11 paper for photo my printing.
Scanner: Works well, overall. I replaced a Scanjet with this device, and I hated the twain driver with the Scanjet. The Canon driver meets my needs much better; it remembers the scan settings from one page to the next which is a plus for me. Cons: I don't like that it is "always on top" while scanning, so I can't multitask while scanning. Another con: if I use the ADF in duplex the scans tend be a bit askew, particularly on the back page.
Copy: Works OK, I did a 2-sided -> 2-sided copy and it seemed a bit complex to select, but it worked well enough. Otherwise it is a snap.
Fax: Haven't tried it yet, although I did set it up. I rarely need to fax anyone or receive them.
Connectivity: I set this printer up right next to my wireless router; I decided to use a cable to connect to the router. It turned out to be extra work compared to a wireless setup. But because I put as many layers of security as possible on my wireless router, that is a complex setup as well.

I looked a long time before I bought this printer. Did a lot of comparison and read a lot of reviews. In the end I believe I made a great choice. It was easy to set up and everything worked as advertised. I am very satisfied with this printer and would recommend it to a friend.
Excellent printer for the money August 21, 2010

It was very easy to set up the wireless network connection, I set it up on two laptops and one desktop computer. Seems sturdy and well made. I was a little suprised by the great quality when printing color photos, a little slow but the quality is worth the wait. Printing regular documents is quite quick. Pretty quiet too. Great all in one, wireless printer for the money.

Connected easily. Installed on first computer easily. Was more difficult to install on second computer; the software kept aborting. I had to download drivers from the Cannon tech help web site and then install the printer with the normal add printer software; then it was OK. Works great copier,fax and scan.

This printer has replaced our two old, dried-up dust collectors in our office. We decided on this model since the price was so good. The print quality is amazing. Period. This is the best printer I have ever owned!
