Pixma MX 860 Printer combo June 30, 2010 smitty I have owned this combo printer ( Canon PIXMA MX 860) for 6 months. I love the scanning which gives you the option for one or two sided, black & white or full color, platen or automatic document feed. 95% of my usage is for scanning. Using the ADF, either single or double sided, scan speed and quality is excellent. Most non-standard size documents need to use the platen which obviously is slower. Using the higher quality setting for color photos and the platen I get excellent results. I do very little printing from it and as a result after 6 months and less than 30 pages printed my color inks are almost empty - during start up and other routine internal maintenance it uses ink even when not printing.
The FAX operation works fine and is very fast
Canon MX860 June 30, 2010 Darryl Burton Speaking of tech customer service; I purchased a Canon multi-function Pixma and the customer service is incredible. The best of any tech company that I have used in years. I could not figure out how to synch the wi-fi for our 3 Macs and 2 PCs in the home. Called them, they assisted me for well over an hour. There was never any pressure. After I lost the connection 60-days out, received the same customer service and the rep remained on line with me even though the office was closed (tech support is in VA and I live in CA). So in the market for a new printer think about Canon.
I agree with the other comments about the printer gulping ink (especially black). Because of that reason, I have started purchasing non-oem ink refills. In my area, Office Max has a refill service but it does not support the Canon cartridge. I have been for years a HP customer despite what I consider lousy customer service. In fact, when my wife purchased the Canon, I was not happy at all. As usual she was right and I was wrong. I am now a huge Canon fan..
Awesome printer June 29, 2010 John Levins (Parker, Co United States) Love everything about this little printer. If looking for high volume, this is not for you - it's on the slow side and holds little paper, but I knew that going in so no worries at all there.
I LOVE this Machine June 24, 2010 Carole Klein (Oakland, CA USA) I bought my Canon MP640 about four months ago and I am totally delighted. I had an Epson for several years and the print quality on this machine is SO much better. It's also really nice looking, has a small footprint and lightweight and easy to handle.
Unlike one of the reviews I read, I set it up myself wirelessly with ease, and I'm no techie. The instructions were very clear and easy.
Since I set it up, I have not had to refer to the instructions at all - It's very user-friendly, and you can figure out how to do almost everything just by looking at it!
It's so rare to buy a product online and be completely satisfied, but this is the one. I couldn't be happier!

The original wifi setup is a little difficult that is if you don't know what "access point" means as I didn't. It does NOT have ad-hoc wifi connection capability. Unfortunately you find this after the purchase. But I was pleasantly surprise to find out that Canon customer service is located in Virgina, USA and the lady was very helpful. Essentially "access point" means the very first connection has to be through USB cable which is supplied by Canon. So far (about couple of months) everything works fine. I don't know how much ink replacement will cost yet. I like its easy double sided print option. Yes! I recommend this printer and I hope it will be a thorn in HP eyes both as quality and customer service.
