GUZZLES INK...Stay Away July 21, 2010 Erik Sun (Laguna Hills, CA) The quality of the printing is good. Best printer I've had in terms of print quality - I work from home and I print pretty much everything you can think of.
HOWEVER, this thing guzzles ink like you wouldn't believe. The wireless was a nightmare to set up (still didn't set it up).
I would look elsewhere. I've had the printer for 2 months and I've gone through 2 color replacement cartridges (I barely print color...it somehow sucks all the ink)
AND FOUR yes FOUR black cartridges printing fewer than 500 pages...
INK costs more than the damn printer!
Very good for this "light" user July 21, 2010 Sail Away I guess I am a "light" user. We use this printer in our home, but don't print too frequently. It has performed well overall. Scanning & the scanning software is particularly excellent. Overall, it's got a great feature set in a nice looking compact form.
As with all printers, I always seem to need to change ink cartridges too frequently. However, that has been the case with all of my ink jet printers, so I can't really knock points off of this printer for that gripe.
I recommend the MX860.
SHRINKING INK TANKS!! July 10, 2010 TSP 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this printer to replace my old Canon MP810. I LOVED the MP810 as finally, here was a printer that had separate color ink tanks (unlike my HPs) and had great features. Along with my PrintFab printer drives which forces the printer to use only black ink for black and white printing (what a novel idea right!), I had NO complaints.
So along comes the MX860. I'm brimming with excitement as I open the box and am SHOCKED to see that the ink tanks are barely HALF the size of the ink tanks used in the MP810. For anyone replacing an older Canon printer, do yourself a favor and compare side-by-side your current ink tank with the CLI-221 ink tanks that are now used in ALL of Canon's new consumer inkjets, not just this one. So many people have complained about the way this printer drinks ink, but its likely due to the fact that your only getting half of what you used to get (FOR THE SAME PRICE NO LESS!!).
I'm also NOT a fan of the lack of rear loading paper trays. I can't begin to tell how annoying it is to have to lift this 30 lb printer every time I want to add more paper. Not to mention the fact that printing envelopes and heavy stock has now been made substantially more difficult, if not impossible.
WIth Canon's newest inkjets, we see Canon aligning themselves with Epson and HP to rip off consumers with overpriced, tiny ink tanks. As to why they ruined what were once really good printers, I wish I knew. Needless to say, the MX860 is a step back for Canon. Anyone looking for a Canon would be advised to try and get a hold of a MP850 or earlier. They're great printers with larger ink tanks and rear loading capability.
